How to Care for Your Ceramic Tile
- Purchase a good quality dust mop and sweep your ceramic tile floors frequently. This is especially important for new installations because the grout has not fully cured, which means the grout is vulnerable to contaminates. Dirt and sand tend to wear or etch hard surfaces under heavy foot traffic. Dirt collecting carpet mats should be placed in frequently used entrances and shaken out weekly. We do not recommend the use of floor waxes on ceramic due to the difficultly of removal and uneven deterioration.
Sealing floors, opposed to waxing, will deem waxing unnecessary. Showers and tub enclosures should have proper ventilation because stagnant water breeds stain causing mildew and fungi. Mop or sponge your tile down two or three times a week using a mixture of one capful of dishwashing liquid per gallon of hot water. Then, mop up excess water and allow approximately half of an hour to dry. Buffing with a dry towel will help to reduce spotting from mineral deposits.
How to Care for Your Marble and Natural Stone
- Natural stone has been used as flooring material since the Greeks and Romans. The two civilizations maintained their flooring by removing dry soil with the occasional application of water. Interestingly enough, a few fundamentals remain from thousands of years ago, such as simply removing abrasives that cause etching. The most common abrasive is sand. The best preventive measure is to emplace mats or area rugs inside and outside entrances. The measure will help to minimize the sand, dirt, and grit that can scratch stone floor. Be sure that the underside of the mat or rug is a non-slip surface. Studies reveal, under normal conditions it will take a person approximately eight steps on a hard surface to remove sand or dirt from the bottom of shoes.

- Do blot up spills immediately

- Don't use vinegar, lemon juice or other cleaners containing acids on marble, limestone, travertine, or onyx surfaces
- Don't use cleaners that contain acid such as bathroom cleaners, grout cleaners of tub & tile cleaners
- Don't use abrasive cleaners such as dry cleansers or soft cleansers
- Don't mix bleach and ammonia; this combination creates a toxic and lethal gas.
- Do not use vacuum cleaners that are worn. The metal or plastic attachments or the wheels may scratch the surface.
